Hội nghị là một trong những hoạt động trọng điểm nhằm tăng cường hợp tác quốc tế, cập nhật kiến thức chuyên sâu và nâng cao năng lực đào tạo – nghiên cứu – thực hành lâm sàng trong lĩnh vực sức khỏe tâm thần trẻ em, đặc biệt là tự kỷ và các rối loạn liên quan đến xử lý giác quan.

Kết nối học thuật quốc tế – nền tảng cho hợp tác bền vững

Trong khuôn khổ chương trình, Khoa Y tế Công cộng đã có buổi làm việc chuyên môn với Đoàn Đại học Washington và Tổ chức MEET, tập trung trao đổi về các chương trình đào tạo liên quan đến tâm lý học, khoa học hành vi, công tác xã hội và y tế công cộng. Các đại diện quốc tế như GS. Karen Bearss, BS. Chris Nguyen, HS. Lily Assaad và bà Loan Nguyen, các đại diện Việt Nam như TS.BS.Nguyễn Tấn Đạt, TS.BS.Nguyễn Văn Thống, TS.BS.Trần Thiện Thắng đã chia sẻ nhiều kinh nghiệm quý báu trong đào tạo, nghiên cứu và triển khai các mô hình can thiệp dựa trên bằng chứng khoa học.

Buổi làm việc không chỉ dừng lại ở trao đổi học thuật mà còn mở ra nhiều định hướng hợp tác tiềm năng như: đồng hướng dẫn nghiên cứu sinh, trao đổi giảng viên – sinh viên, triển khai đề tài nghiên cứu chung và công bố quốc tế trong lĩnh vực tự kỷ và sức khỏe tâm thần cộng đồng.

Nội dung hội thảo chuyên sâu, gắn lý thuyết với thực hành

Điểm nhấn của chương trình là hội thảo khoa học cấp khoa tổ chức tại Hội trường RD vào ngày 05/11/2025, thu hút khoảng 150 đại biểu tham dự gồm các đơn vị Bệnh viện Đại Học Y Dược Bệnh viện tâm thần khu vực ĐBSCL, Phòng khám tâm Lý 247 và các bác sĩ trong khu vực. Hội thảo được thiết kế theo cấu trúc khoa học, logic, chia thành hai phần lớn: cơ sở khoa học – nhận diện và chiến lược can thiệp – thực hành.

Ở phần đầu, các báo cáo viên quốc tế và trong nước đã trình bày tổng quan về rối loạn phổ tự kỷ, bao gồm dịch tễ học, tiêu chuẩn chẩn đoán theo DSM-5 và ICD-11, các rối loạn thường gặp đi kèm, đồng thời nhấn mạnh vai trò then chốt của rối loạn xử lý giác quan trong bức tranh toàn diện về ASD. Những nội dung này giúp người tham dự cập nhật kiến thức nền tảng, thống nhất cách tiếp cận hiện đại trong nhận diện và đánh giá trẻ tự kỷ.

Phần thảo luận ca lâm sàng minh họa đã tạo không khí học thuật sôi nổi khi các chuyên gia cùng phân tích một trường hợp trẻ ASD có rối loạn xử lý giác quan, từ nhận diện biểu hiện, phân tích khó khăn đến đề xuất định hướng can thiệp phù hợp trong thực tế Việt Nam.

Tăng cường kỹ năng can thiệp và ứng dụng thực tiễn

Buổi chiều cùng ngày tập trung vào chiến lược can thiệp và thực hành, trong đó các chuyên gia quốc tế chia sẻ các nguyên tắc cốt lõi của Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT), xây dựng “sensory plan” cá nhân hóa cho trẻ, cũng như cách điều chỉnh môi trường học đường và gia đình nhằm hỗ trợ trẻ tự kỷ hiệu quả hơn.

Đặc biệt, hoạt động workshop thực hành nhóm nhỏ với hình thức role-play và phân tích tình huống đã giúp giảng viên, sinh viên và nhân viên y tế chuyển hóa kiến thức lý thuyết thành kỹ năng thực hành, đáp ứng yêu cầu chăm sóc và can thiệp ngày càng cao trong cộng đồng.

Khẳng định vai trò của Trường Đại học Y Dược Cần Thơ

Hội nghị không chỉ là diễn đàn học thuật có giá trị mà còn khẳng định vai trò tiên phong của Trường Đại học Y Dược Cần Thơ trong đào tạo, nghiên cứu và kết nối quốc tế về lĩnh vực sức khỏe tâm thần và rối loạn phát triển trẻ em. Sự tham gia tích cực của các chuyên gia quốc tế đã góp phần nâng cao chất lượng học thuật của hội nghị, đồng thời mở ra những cơ hội hợp tác lâu dài, hướng đến mục tiêu chăm sóc toàn diện và dựa trên bằng chứng cho trẻ tự kỷ tại Việt Nam.

Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hosts an International Scientific Conference on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorders

In the context of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders receiving increasing attention in medicine and education, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy successfully organized a scientific conference entitled “Autism Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorders: From Theory to Practice.”

The conference was jointly organized by the Faculty of Public Health and the Department of Psychiatry and took place over two days, November 3 and 5, 2025. The event welcomed numerous international experts from the University of Washington (USA) and the MEET Organization, along with a large number of lecturers, postgraduate trainees, students, and healthcare professionals from the Mekong Delta region.

This conference was one of the university’s key activities aimed at strengthening international collaboration, updating specialized knowledge, and enhancing training, research, and clinical practice capacity in the field of child mental health, particularly autism and sensory processing–related disorders.

International academic networking – a foundation for sustainable collaboration

Within the framework of the program, the Faculty of Public Health held a professional working session with the delegation from the University of Washington and the MEET Organization. Discussions focused on training programs related to psychology, behavioral sciences, social work, and public health. International representatives such as Prof. Karen Bearss, Dr. Chris Nguyen, Ms. Lily Assaad, and Ms. Loan Nguyen, together with Vietnamese representatives including Dr. Nguyen Tan Dat, Dr. Nguyen Van Thong, and Dr. Tran Thien Thang, shared valuable experiences in education, research, and the implementation of evidence-based intervention models.

Beyond academic exchange, the meeting opened up many potential directions for collaboration, such as co-supervision of graduate students, faculty and student exchange, joint research projects, and international publications in the fields of autism and community mental health.

In-depth scientific content linking theory with practice

A highlight of the program was the faculty-level scientific workshop held at RD Hall on November 5, 2025, which attracted approximately 150 participants from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, regional psychiatric hospitals in the Mekong Delta, Psychology Clinic 247, and physicians from the region. The workshop was designed with a clear and logical scientific structure, divided into two main sections: scientific foundations and identification, and intervention strategies and practice.

In the first section, international and national speakers presented an overview of ASD, including epidemiology, diagnostic criteria according to DSM-5 and ICD-11, commonly associated comorbidities, and emphasized the pivotal role of sensory processing disorders in the comprehensive understanding of ASD. These presentations helped participants update foundational knowledge and align with modern approaches to the identification and assessment of children with autism.

The clinical case discussion created a dynamic academic atmosphere, as experts jointly analyzed a case of a child with ASD and sensory processing disorder, from symptom recognition and difficulty analysis to proposing appropriate intervention directions within the Vietnamese context.

Enhancing intervention skills and practical application

The afternoon session focused on intervention strategies and practice. International experts shared core principles of Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT), methods for developing individualized sensory plans, and approaches to modifying school and home environments to better support children with autism.

Notably, small-group practical workshops using role-play and case analysis enabled lecturers, students, and healthcare professionals to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills, meeting the growing demands for care and intervention in the community.

Affirming the role of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy

The conference was not only a valuable academic forum but also reaffirmed the pioneering role of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in training, research, and international collaboration in the fields of mental health and child developmental disorders. The active participation of international experts enhanced the academic quality of the conference and opened opportunities for long-term collaboration, toward the goal of comprehensive, evidence-based care for children with autism in Vietnam.
