Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) is the only public university training undergraduate and postgraduate students in medicine, pharmcy, dentistry, nursing, and other health sciences in Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
Mekong Delta (other names: Nine Dragon river delta [Vietnamese: Đồng bằng Sông Cửu Long], Mekong river delta [Vietnamese: Đồng Bằng Sông Mê Kông], the Western Region [Vietnamese: Miền Tây], or the South-western region [Vietnamese: Tây Nam Bộ]) is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. The region comprises 12 provinces: Long An, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, An Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, and Ca Mau, along with the national-level city of Can Tho .
Life in Mekong Delta revolves much around the river, and many of the villages are often accessible by rivers and canals. The region is home to “Cải lương”, a form of Kinh/Vietnamese folk opera . Ethnic groups living mainly in this region include Kinh, Hoa, Khmer and Cham.
Mekong Delta is also famous for many kinds of tropical fruits. Its major special fruits are expanding their export markets to 76 countries. The main fruit products include dragon fruit, coconut, pineapple, jackfruit, longan, mango, pomelo, banana, rambutan, etc.
