Overview of the Anniversary

During 20 years of establishment, 43 years of construction and development, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy has been one of the top human resource training institutions of the Mekong Delta region in the group of health sciences, carried the mission of training high-quality health human resources at undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational training levels combined with the drastically development and renewal of facilities, spacious lecture halls, modern laboratories; there is a hospital named after the university with modern facilities; dormitory for students, clean vegetable gardens, study areas, a modern library,... On the other hand, training activities and scientific research activities of the university have constantly innovated in the direction of meeting the requirements of education and training innovation; besides, not only working conditions but also the spiritual and cultural life of teachers, university officials and students have been increasingly improved.

At the same time, the development of science & technology in the period of international integration, digital technology era, scientific research activities at the university are constantly promoted, which is equivalent to the application and transfer of technology, protection, care and the improvement of people's health. In the vision to 2025, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy is going to be one of the top 5 first-rate health science universities in Vietnam and ranked in the top 500 best universities in Southeast Asia; By 2030, the university will enter the top 5 health sciences universities in Vietnam and ranked among the top 1000 best universities in Asia.

            In the speech to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the university, Assoc. Prof. Dr. NGUYEN Trung Kien – Rector of CTUMP, reviewed the tradition of the University throughout its development stages. The meaningful 20-year journey of establishing the university is briefly summarized through documentary footage. The proud achievements that the university has achieved together with the plans for the future of the university promise to increasingly promote the movement of learning and researching in the ministries and students. Along with the outstanding development of technical technology and the rapid progress of molecular biology, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy has enlarged its participation in scientific research with high applicability in clinical practice and daily life.

 On this important day, the university is proudly honored to have many collectives and individuals achieved merit certificates from the High Command of Military Region 9, the Ministry of Public Security, the Chairman of the People's Committees of Can Tho City, the Minister of Health and the Executive Board of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

With the contributions to the development of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. NGUYEN Trung Kien awarded the emblem "For the career of constructing and developing Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy" to 7 partner units, including 3 domestic units and 4 foreign units.

            Delivering congratulatory remarks, Minister of Health – Ms. DAO Hong Lan - acknowledged the efforts and strivings of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy over the past years: “…Over the years, the university's staff and lecturers have surpassed through many difficulties and challenges of life and work to show the virtues of being a doctor and also a teacher while helping generations of students to receive a mass of scientific knowledge and valuable practical experiences of the university from the true doctors and teachers, which also inspire the intellectual and emotional development of the students,... On behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Health, I would like to send the best wishes to all the teachers, officials, employees and students at the University. Hopefully, all staff and officials of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy always rigidly unite and continue striving to build and develop the University even more, and all the efforts will be worth the expectations of your individual, leaders and the people in the area”.

            On behalf of the leaders of Can Tho City, Mr. NGUYEN Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee delivered: "On the side of Can Tho city, we will continue to support the University to have more resources to develop the University become a National Key University in the spirit of Resolution No. 98/NQ-CP dated August 30th, 2021 of the Government on promulgating the Action Program to implement Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo on building and developing Can Tho city to 2030, on vision to 2045; become a center for training high-quality medical human resources, scientific research, technology transfer and medical examination and treatment for the people of the Mekong Delta, both domestically and internationally.”

            In the joyful atmosphere of celebrating the anniversary, Specialist level 2 Mr. NGUYEN Van Ngoan, Head of the Infection Control Department of Can Tho Central General Hospital, expressed his thoughts about the university that has been attached to his student life: “Many alumni have become senior leaders in institutions, party and state agencies, mass organizations; many are Professors, Associate Professors, PhDs, Prestigious Scientists, Good Teachers; excellent doctors, pharmacists,… But no matter where we are in life or any position, generations of our alumni always remember the university, the teachers and the officials of the University who have guided us to become useful people for our society."

All the great progress can affirm that Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy has a positive and comprehensive development. According to the assessment among universities in the field of Medicine and Pharmacy across the country, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy is the pioneer in implementing a pilot system of innovating the operating mechanism to switch to an autonomous operating mechanism according to Resolution No. 77 in the year 2014 by the Government.
