Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established based on the Faculty of Medicine – Dentistry - Pharmacy of Can Tho University. Up to now, the University has 6 faculties, 57 departments, and 16 supporting units and libraries. The school is training 10 undergraduate programs, 72 graduate programs, and 88 continuous training programs with over 12,000 students and trainees. In the past 19 years, alongside resource development, school leaders have always cared about the responsibility to students with the lack of a dormitory. The introduction of a 100-room dormitory (funded by the 789 Corporation of the Ministry of National Defense), with a capacity of about 200-300 students, created conditions for students to stay for peace of mind to study.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. NGUYEN Trung Nhan congratulated Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy on the new development; simultaneously, it is expected that with the sponsorship of benefactors as well as the university’s efforts, more facilities and more spacious dormitories would be invested in and built. Can Tho City always care about supporting the University to develop to the right level of a university that specializes in training high-quality human resources in the field of health sciences.

On this occasion, some companies and businesses donated 420 million VND to the university Study Promotion Fund to support students in need.

Within the framework of the ceremony, the university inaugurated a cluster of buildings to celebrate its 19^th anniversary of establishment, such as the Tran De gate (Nguyen Van Cu street), the Co Chien - Cung Hau gate (Tran Bach Dang street); and organized some activities to celebrate the 72^nd anniversary of the traditional day for students.
