The workshop was
held successfully thanks to the efforts and well-cooperatingof the University's staff, especially the guidance and expertise
sharing of experts from HAIVN.
Attending the workshop were David Duong, MD, MPH, Deputy Director
of HAIVN, Harvard Medical School; MSc. LE Ngoc Bao, Director of HAIVN Vietnam -
Project Director of IMPACT MED, and management experts and project coordinators
of IMPACT-MED, HAIVN.
On the side of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the workshop
welcomed Assoc. Prof.. TRAN Viet An, Vice Rector; Leaders of the Faculty of
Medicine included Ph.D. LE Van Minh, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Ph.D.. TRAN
Thai Thanh Tam, Ph.D. NGUYEN Nhu Nghia, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine,
and more than 200 staff including: administrators of the faculties; lecturers; officer of centers,
departments, and representatives of departments of University.

Speaking to welcome the workshop, Assoc. Prof. TRAN Viet An, Vice
Rector of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, delivered that Competency-based
Medical Education plays a fundamental role in medical education, equipping
students with knowledge, skills, and necessary values for clinical practice.
Moreover, it is a lifelong journey of learning and professional development in
the field of medicine.
As the representative of the Faculty of Medicine, Deputy Dean of
the Faculty of Medicine, Ph.D. TRAN Thai Thanh Tam gave a speech about the
overview of the workshop's objectives and program.

During more than 3 hours of the orientation workshop on
Competency-based Medical Education, the presenters showed that Competency-based
Medical Education helps the users establish a solid foundation and high-quality
medical staff in the future. At the same time, the workshop is also an
opportunity to share ideas, connect and learn from experienced advisors from
Medical Universities across the country and the HAIVN organization.

The workshop focused on main contents such as: defining competency-based
medical education and explaining the theoretical basis of CBME; explaining why
CBME can improve healthcare at both the local and global scope; What is
integration and how the principles of integrated education help us achieve our
goals? vertical, horizontal, spiral integration; integrating preclinical and
clinical. At the workshop, delegates listened to the sharing of experts and
experienced presenters from Harvard Medical School.

in practical work in the situation at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Transfering
the model from Traditional Medical Education to Competency-based Medical
Education is a common trend worldwide to improve the effectiveness of medical
training. The Faculty of Medicine of Can Tho University of Medicine and
Pharmacy along with domestic and foreign experts in the field of health
sciences are implementing this program.
HAIVN (The Partnership
for Health Advancement in Vietnam) is a partnership between Harvard Medical
School (HMS) and two medical training organizations under HMS, Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH).
.The IMPACT MED Alliance
is sponsored by USAID, HAIVN/BIDMC accompanied by ten leading universities of
medicine and pharmacy in Vietnam in the work of building a team of competent,
effective medical staff that meet the needs of the healthcare field in the
21st century, contributes to increase the resilience of the healthcare system
and national health security, promotes equitable and evidence-based health
maintenance.
This project will support
universities in the field of healthcare in Vietnam to transform their model
from Traditional Medical Education to Competency-based Medical Education.
