CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY (CTUMP) WAS HONORED WITH THE SECOND PRIZE OF THE CONTEST “SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR STUDENTS 2020”
The
contest “Scientific research for students 2020” was recently organized from
November 25th 2020 to November 27th 2020 by the Ministry
of Education and Training in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and
Technology, Central Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and the Vietnam Union of
Technical Associations at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. This
contest attracted 461 entries from 103 institutes nationwide. Among them, the
field of Medicine and Pharmacy has 32 subjects.
The entry
"Investigating the hypoglycemic effect of film-coated tablets containing condensed
Neem leaves extracted balm on the model of hyperglycemia-induced white
mice" took advantage of the byproducts of Neem trees (Azadirachta indica) in
An Giang province, old leaves, to extract and concentrate into condensed balm, which
was then prepared into film-coated tablets containing Neem leaves extracted
balm. In An Giang province, Neem trees have been known as a medicinal herb useful
in treating diabetes, and long been widely utilized in Traditional Medicine. However,
locals mostly use the young leaves of the Neem trees in cuisines such as Neem
salad. The successful preparation of film-coated tablets containing Neem leaves
extracted balm is expected to be a solution for regularity and convenience of
use of medicinal herbs in chronic diseases such as diabetes – a major health
problem of the modern world. This is the School-level scientific research entry
for students, qualified and rated excellent by the Scientific Council of Can
Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, under Decision No. 1294 / QĐ-ĐHYDCT
dated June 30th, 2020, of the Rector Board of the Can Tho University
